Millions of children participate in youth sports each year in the US alone. Other than the pronounced physical benefits, youth sports help to build a foundation for many different aspects of a child’s life. This includes things like learning how to cooperate with others, problem solving, building self-esteem, and learning how to socially interact with adults and peers. Research and innovation in the area of youth sport and performance is primarily focused on the issues surrounding obesity, how to attain proper nutrition, and understanding the physical and mental health of children and adolescents.
