Our Mission
The UNLV Sports Innovation Institute strives to be the first name in sports research and innovation. It will become the leading sports research hub in the world by leveraging institutional and regional sports expertise to drive excellence in all sports-related research and innovation as well as by recruiting and collaborating with a wide array of local professional sports teams, our own athletics department, strategic partners, new startups, as well as existing companies that specialize in sports research and innovation.
Overview
UNLV has been conducting more sports research than many other academic institutions in the nation, going well beyond the focus others have taken on traditional sports medicine/human performance research. Through the UNLV Sports Innovation Institute, UNLV will build upon its already strong sports research foundation, adding the university’s research strengths in marketing, gaming, nutrition, psychology, performance, and more to develop the most comprehensive sports research agenda in the world.
The UNLV Sports Innovation Institute will address the needs of its stakeholders and Las Vegas’ burgeoning sports scene by studying, assisting, and ultimately developing research, knowledge, and innovations that will benefit athletes of all varieties at all levels—from professional athletic organizations to weekend athletes and even esports competitors.
The UNLV Sports Innovation Institute will provide an ample, dedicated physical space at UNLV’s Harry Reid Research and Technology Park that will welcome the community, partners, industry leaders, and public entities into this collaborative venture.
Because of the diverse research agenda and expertise, it will offer from every college and school at UNLV, the Sports Innovation Institute will achieve several goals as it develops. It will attract, train, and produce the finest sports-related experts globally in a multitude of disciplines. It will enable Las Vegas teams and UNLV to recruit top athletes to the region. It will also inspire new and deeper collaborations among our professional sports team partners, promoting further economic development and growth in Southern Nevada. The UNLV Sports Innovation Institute presents Las Vegas and Nevada with the unique opportunity to be the world leader in sports innovation and drive new brands of research, jobs, and industry throughout the region and beyond.
