Researchers at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Cardiovascular Research and Exercise Lab (CARE Lab) are attempting to assess how a lower heart rate, a feature of Down syndrome, can impact people’s ability to move and exercise.
From the article:
Dr. Thessa Hilgenkamp, who leads the CARE Lab research team, said it is hard for people to properly appreciate the difficulties of Down syndrome if they do not that do not live with the condition. “For example, if you go for a little walk to a mailbox,” explained Hilgenkamp. “That might feel like a very light-intensity walk. But for someone with Down syndrome, that might actually be a higher intensity because it is just a little bit harder to keep moving and to get moving.”
